Rule n° 29 - The purpose of using cookies, as well as the limitations inherent in refusing them, are explained.

Years ago you could have relied on a cookie always being a biscuit. Now it is commonly an internet file which if implemented wrongly will not leave a good taste in the users mouth. For the informed web user, this is a file that a website deposits on the users computer and is a means of tracing the use of the Web. It is potentially a very effective technique to improve navigation, memorize options offer targeted content. In fact, the technique is not bad in itself and lends itself to all kinds of uses. To reassure your visitors, all you have to do is explain how and why it is used.

Implementation

Specify in the website's privacy policy if cookies have to be accepted in order to browse the website. If so, explain the reason for their use, the nature of the data stored and possibly provide the links allowing their deactivation.

In the legal notices page, in the confidentiality policy or in the home page, the about page or the help page, or in the pages for the terms of service:

  • Check that the objective of the use of cookies and the consequences of their deactivation are clearly present.
