Rule n° 12 - Each graph is accompanied by its numerical data.
A picture might be worth a thousand words but a chart might be hiding a thousand more words if the data underlying it is not made available . In some user contexts users can not access the graphics rendering, and data access will enable them to understand the content.
Goal
- Enable or improve understanding of the graph.
- Improve the accessibility of the contents for people with disabilities.
- Improve the consideration of contents by search engines and indexing tools.
- Improve the accessibility of content for people with disabilities.
- Improve the way content is taken into account by search engines and indexing tools.
Solution technique
- Display in a structured way, somewhere close to the chart, all the numerical data that it represents, for example in the form of a data table.
- Alternatively provide close to the chart a link to content of the same type.
Moyen de contrôle
Check that, for each chart, there is structured content indicating all the numerical data that it represents, or a link towards a page providing this.
