Rule n° 153 - Navigation blocks of the same nature are in the same place on every page.

A few minutes browsing a site and you instinctively move your mouse to the location saved as the menu location. If the navigation suddenly moves it will confuse or potentially annoy your visitors.

Goal

  • Facilitate users’ learning of how to navigate the interface.
  • Simplify the identification of information.

Implementation

Maintain the same positioning on the screen of the navigation menus throughout the site.

Control

During the other checks:

  • Check that the navigation menus are displayed in the same place on the screen.

The verification can also be carried out upstream of the project, during the design of the graphic models, and downstream of the project during the final integration to check that this best practice has not deteriorated due, for example, to the implementation of third-party services.
