Rule n° 156 - Mechanisms for closing windows are immediately available.

Some windows, especially advertising windows, can only be closed after a delay. This delay forces you to wait to close them. Many users flee this type of practice by closing the tabs. Others suffer and wait, but the image of the website can be degraded. If you offer advertising or promotional windows on your site, be aware of this type of practice.

  • Reduce the time it takes to learn to use the interface.
  • Speed up access to the content.
  • Reduce the bounce rate.


Avoid any temporary advertising-type content that delays closing a modal window or similar.


Make sure that each modal or similar window can be closed as soon as it is displayed.
