Rule n° 32 - Registration for ancillary services is not enabled by default.

You are about to place an order and you notice that the box for an optional insurance, newsletter or annual subscription is already checked. In English this is called opt-out, where you have to uncheck a box, as opposed to opt-in, where you have to check. Of course, any subscription to ancillary services must be a real choice on the part of the user.

Goal

  • Allow the user the choice of his actions.
  • Preventing unintentional commands and associated claims.
  • Prevent potential lawsuits in countries where the practice is prohibited.

Implementation

Any additional services added to the user's basket (newsletter subscription, warranty extension, service or additional product) are not included by default (opt-out) but must be explicitly included by the user (opt-in).

Control

Check that, during the ordering process, any additional services added to the user's basket (subscription to a newsletter, warranty extension, additional service or product) are not included by default (opt-out) but must be included by the user (opt-in).
